Blue Flower

On 9 & 10 September 2017 we were open to the public as part of the Heritage Open Days. We had over 30 visitors each day and we enjoyed showing them round the mill and answering questions. We put our footbridge across so walkers from the footpath could also join us.

Finds were put on show outside along with signs explaining the main features of the site. A new finds display was hung outside on the doors of our railway wagon, inside the wagon are photographs of how the working mill looked and the progress of us uncovering the building areas and features, plus many other displays.

We gave our visitors tea, coffee, biscuits, crisps and water, all of which was kindly supplied by Tesco Swaffham who support us regularly.

These were the first open days to have the water wheel turning, we use a pump which is an environment friendly way to turn the wheel as the river level and wildlife are not affected. Visitors and volunteers enjoyed seeing the wheel in motion on both days.

Victoria from Dobbies Garden Centre, Kings Lynn joined us to present a plaque for the garden showing they support us with donations of many items including tools, Cherry tree and plants.

Kalvin, our latest volunteer is a member of Norfolk and Suffolk 4x4 Response, we are grateful for their help driving visitors along the riverside track from the car park to the mill.

The next open days will be in May 2018 but group visits can be arranged by contacting us, and volunteers work on site every Thursday when we welcome visitors.

We are pleased to have been shortlisted for Tesco's Bags of Help scheme which means that during September and October 2017 shoppers at Tesco Swaffham will be able to vote for us in store to help us secure a grant of upto £4,000 to help us maintain and improve the bonemill.

So if you shop at Tesco Swaffham, please vote for us!
