The new shed was part of the Wildflower Meadow project. It replaced a large shipping container to give better views of the site, it is joined to our visitor centre.
The visitor centre is based on the original mill building, the shed is based on the slate roofed building on the right of the mill, as shown in the model.
The shed was made at The Maltings, the steel base was made on 12/2/22 and the wooden floor was installed on 17/2/22.
The roof and side panels were made on 5/3/22 and on 12/3/22 we made a roof gulley, shed door and did a trial assembley.
All parts were loaded on the tractor trailer and taken to site for assembly in April 2022.
The shed contains a lot of re-used materials including steel girders in the base; OSB sheets for the sides, door, roof gulley and internal cladding; and slates for the roof.
The shed frees up a storage room in the visitor centre which is now used for displaying items found when making the wildflower meadow and a multimedia screen with a slideshow of making the meadow and the meadow in flower.
Our Green Community Grant paid for solar powered lighting, power tool charging and steel storage racks in the shed. The shed has a workbench and tool storage chest as well as storage space in the roof for lengths of timber.
